Stay firesafe when you’re away from home!
Learn about fire safety when staying at a hotel, short-term or vacation rental.

There are an estimated 3,900 hotel and motel fires each year, resulting in 15 deaths, 100 injuries and $100 million in property losses.

When staying in hotels or motels, always:

• Choose accommodations equipped with hard-wired smoke alarms and automatic fire sprinkler systems in each guest room.
• Locate the 2 nearest exits from your room.
• Count the number of doors between your room and the exits.

If you're in a short-term rental, always:

• Know the address of the rental property.
• Ensure there are working smoke alarms in every sleeping room, outside each separate sleeping area and on every level of the rental.
• Know 2 ways out of every room.
